2004 Boys Backpacking Trip

This was Stone's first year to go backpacking (When they are 8 and want to go).  Stone has been wanting to go with us for a year or two.  He was finally old enough.  Normally we have a tradition of hiking down Humbug canyon to the North Fork of the American River.  The prime objective is for the gold panning--However, the runoff has been so poor the past several years, we didn't see the point in making the grueling hike with little prospect of finding much gold.

2004-Kirman Lake Backpacking TripWe decided, instead, to try something new.    We went to Kirman Lake, near Hwy 395 and Hwy 108 (Sonora Junction).  It was much easier than Humbug, but proved to be a good first hike for Stone.
