Dinosaur Fossil in Clipper Gap, CA
I cannot believe I was born and raised in the Meadow Vista area and never knew about this fossil. It's actually not a fossil, the bones are no longer there. What we see is where the bones used to be. I was told that in 1920, the bones were removed. The rock wall is along the railroad tracks in Clipper Gap. It looks like it was a flying type dinosaur with a wing above the kids head.
Directions: Eastbound 80 to Meadow Vista/Clipper Gap exit. Turn right, go to Park & pool. Turn left on frontage road and go 50 feet and turn right on Clipper Gap Road. Go under the first set of Railroad tracks. At the next set of tracks crossing the road, turn left on the dirt road alongside the railroad tracks. Follow dirt road through the narrow canyon created for the railroad tracks and park where it opens up (A total of about 400'). Walk back the way you came about 75' and look for this on your right.
